Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In 8th grade science class, my students learn best by doing hands-on activities. Newton's three laws of motion and different forces are best understood when students see them in action. Students also take pride in their work when it's displayed with pictures.
My students are on different levels, from gifted to students with learning disabilities.
The instruction I provide is differentiated and presented with different modalities to reach every student. The science they learn in this level is chemistry, physics, and astronomy. This type of science is very challenging and hard to understand concepts like the laws of physics. Working with models and being able to observe, feel, and act out the different forces for example, helps them learn and understand better than if they only see diagrams in a book. With the materials Donor's Choose provides, my students will be able to prepare for high school and will be ready to face the challenges of the 21st Century.

My Project
I am requesting a digital camera to use in the classroom for projects my students work on. For example, when they build bridges and roller coasters, we take pictures of the building progress and they put them in their journal to talk about the problems they encountered and the solutions they came up with. We use the camera on field trips and presentations to post pictures in the classroom and review or reflect on. We also take pictures to show pride of student work.
Other materials I requested are to help students understand Newton's three laws of motion and the different forces.
My project is important because my students learn better when they are appreciated, praised, and see their work displayed.
They also learn better when they are able to observe the laws of physics in action rather than just reading about them. This is why we need materials to make science meaningful and relative to students' lives.
