Science Experiment Fun!

Help me give my students dissolving paper, secret letter writing pens, a hair straightener (as a heat source), petri dishes, and fortune telling fish to liven up our science lessons!

My Students

My students love learning in different ways. My classroom is full of eager learners who have many different learning styles. I have many students who are English language learners. Many of my students are visual and tactile learners. My students love learning new things and creating things to show what they learned. They like to share what they have learned with other classes in our school. Science and social studies are the subjects that my students love the most.

My students also love using technology to increase their learning and to share what they learned.

My students continue to amaze me every day with their knowledge and love for learning.

My Project

What was your favorite subject in school? Was it science? One of my favorite subjects to teach is science. There is so much that you can do to make science fun! The curriculum that we use is very dry. I am trying to bring more science experiments into my classroom.

I find that students understand and remember the concepts better if they are doing hands-on activities rather than just worksheets.

The materials I am requesting will enhance the science concepts that I am teaching. When we use the materials that I am requesting, we will work through the scientific process to see how our experiments turn out. I am requesting dissolving paper to teach the concept of how different states of matter can react when put in contact with water. I am requesting gel pens to show what happens when something comes in contact with heat. If you write a message in a regular pen and run a hair straightener or any heat source over the paper, nothing will happen. However, if you write a message in a gel pen, specifically the friction pens, the ink becomes clear when a heat source is applied to it. This activity will show students how different materials will react when heat is applied. That is also why I am asking for a hair straightener, it will be a very safe heat source to show this reaction of heat and ink. I am so requesting Magic Fish to show how the heat from your hand can cause a reaction. It will be interesting to see how the fish react to each student's hands. I am also requesting petri dishes to help us be able to see our experiments. All of the materials that I am requesting will help make science so much more fun.
