Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My preschool classroom integrates the arts with other curricula. We recently have moved to a different classroom and now have space for the science center we have needed.

Because they live in a city, many of the students are not as aware of nature as they would otherwise be. This makes it important to give them experiences in a nurturing environment that will help them to notice and understand the natural world around them.

This cozy rug I have chosen not only is a literature tie-in, as it features illustrations from a favorite children's book, it will also clearly delineate a special place for learning about science. In the past I have received butterfly kits a couple of times, and have seen the incredible excitement and learning that results from watching the metamorphosis process. In addition, the specimen enclosed in lucite will be both a prediction tool and a reminder to the students. Other materials we already have will be much more attractive in the warm atmosphere the rug will create.

Your help will create a place for preschoolers to really become deeply interested in life science, and who knows?--this early interest may scientists make. It will certainly enrich the lives of every child in my class!
