I teach in a school rural area. I sponsor a science club. Unlike most clubs, I don’t require a high GPA, but the members must be respectful and responsible at all times. Because of this club, it has helped with behavior issues in the classroom.
We live in a rural community.
We have 40 members in our Science Club. The Science Club does community service and projects. We paint the school sidewalk, do Christmas stockings for the pre-K students, and gift bags and caroling at the community nursing home. We have our annual campout, Science Academic Olympiad, and Earth Day events.
We have an end of the year field trip every year. The trips cost between $6,000 and $8,000. We have fundraisers to help fund this trip. This year our fundraisers have come up short because other clubs are also trying to raise money. I try not to have the members pay out of pocket so they can have spending money.
The photo is from a project we did last year. We turned the entire hallway into a planetarium; it was awesome.
The end of the year field trip is something the Science Club members work hard for and look forward to each year.
This project will help cover the cost of admission to Magic Springs Theme and Water Park.
The Science Club members are so excited about going on this field trip because they hear previous members talk about how much fun they had in the past. We would dearly appreciate any donations to this project.
This field trip will be a treat for our members who otherwise would not get to travel outside of our home town or outside of Mississippi. We try to make our field trips not only educational, but with a fun aspect also.
