Science Center Field Trip

My students need funds to cover the cost of transportation to the Science Center for a field trip.

My Students

My students have not been on a math field trip in many years. I would like to take them to the science center so that they can see many of the applications for mathematics.

My school is an urban school, that has several middle schools that feed into it.

Many of my students are not able to pay for the field trip themselves, but it will be a valuable opportunity. We have been very limited in the activities we are able to do because of funding.

My Project

The students will participate in several activities at the science center. They will also have an opportunity to have some fun and see an IMAX show. In the classroom the students see algebra as an isolated subject. By going to the science center, they will be able to see many applications.

Hands on activities are very important to keep the students interest in a subject.

It is difficult to get them excited about solve an equation, just to find the value of x. But to see it used in the real world can spark their interest and keep them motivated.
