Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a wonderful group of boys and girls on their way to being great young men and women. They come from mostly Latino and Somali backgrounds and demonstrate pride of their heritage.

Our regular education classroom is made of 35%-40% English Language Learners and students who receive pull out support for moderate learning disabilities.

Most of my students come from a low-income households that can not afford basic school supplies. Many students' caregivers would like to be more involved in their children's education but generally do not have the option to take time off from work to attend school events. These student deserve all the best life offers and any available support to help them achieve their goals.

My Project

My students need more exposure to real world connections in science. Science World classroom magazine provides students with interesting and relevant information about the latest discoveries in STEM projects from around the globe.

Informational texts can be challenging for many students.

Learning the language of science in order to promote well reasoned arguments and explanations of scientific concepts is an essential academic skill.

Science World classroom magazine articles offers opportunities for students to engage in grade level scientific literature. The more students read science related texts the more comfortable they will become in using scientific terminology with confidence.

Hands-on investigative activities captures students' imagination in the classroom. Monthly exposure to real world investigations though reading exciting scientific articles connects students' imaginations to the science beyond the classroom.
