I am a media coordinator at a Title I elementary school. We have 80% of our students on free or reduced lunch. This is my first year as a media coordinator. I have a five year plan to update the library collection. The first section I want and need to update is the Science section, because our school system will begin testing in Science next year. The average age of our science video collection is 1993. This is really outdated. In order for our students to do well on the science test, we will need updated and current information. The school is updating the science books but we also need to update our science video collection. We need to update material for all grades, starting from kindergarten through fifth. I believe that in order for students to do well in science it has to be built upon, starting from the lower grades. As the media coordinator, I want to collaborate with the teachers in all areas of the curriculum. I will be aligning my video collection with the elementary science curriculum. This way our students and faculty can use the media center to acquire information needed to enhance their classroom science programs.
