Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school's 7th graders are energetic and eager to learn about science. To have a more fully engaging experience in this classroom, specific tools are needed to help some of our higher needs students.
Help expand the science classroom experience for historically underserved students in the East Bay by increasing access for our highest need learners.
The students that will benefit the most from this project include English Language learners and learners who need different types of tools to increase their opportunity to succeed in Science and beyond.
My Project
Our students at Bancroft Middle School have a wide variety of needs to succeed in the science classroom. Over half our students are considered low income and will be the first in their families to attend college. In order to help prepare these young scientists to compete in our modern world, my science classroom needs to be equipped with basic tools to match the variety of learner needs to compliment our units on engineering, chemistry, and biology.
We need funding for supplies to help transform a classroom that was once used as a lab only classroom once a week into an everyday science classroom that meets needs of all learners.
We are launching our first class project with an iPad (+case) for better accessibility as well as other tactile and focusing tools (disk seats, bouncy cushions, and privacy boards) to help our most high energy learners achieve. In addition we are requesting everyday use supplies for students - pencils, markers, and hand sanitizer to keep away the germs! As a teacher, I am hoping for the following items to help me better prepare lessons and students' organizational skills with a classroom mailbox, sheet protectors, paper cutter, and hooks for backpacks. Lastly, we would like a stash of healthy emergency snacks (nuts and granola bars) for our hungry students who do not always have access to personal snacks at home.
