This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 23 enthusiastic and energetic first graders. As a teacher in a low income and high poverty school district, my students face several challenges outside of the classroom. My goal is to create an environment where my students feel safe and develop a love for learning.

My students are motivated, excited and determined.

Many of my students are below grade level for reading and math. We have committed ourselves to learning something new each day. We recognize that mistakes are proof that we are trying our best. My students know that their classmates and I are cheering them on.

My Project

Each day my students participate in a variety of reading centers. These centers include read to self, writing, poetry, listening, and read to someone. Throughout the year I have attempted to improve the organization of these centers. However, we need supplies to help us make our centers run more smoothly.

These supplies will assist my students in conquering and mastering the first grade curriculum.

The pencils will be used to complete writing assignments. My students will become published authors when their next literary piece is bound using the binding machines. Each student will be provided with a poetry binder to store their reading center supplies. Centers will be able to be enjoyed by future students since we will have the laminating sheets to preserve them. The ink and card stock will allow us to print a variety of resources that students will be able to utilize. Students will come to school knowing they will have the necessary supplies and be successful in the classroom.
