My students need school appropriate uniforms that fit and are in good condition (including white uniform polo shirts, navy blue pants, and navy blue sweaters) to come to school in uniform feeling positive about themselves.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bilingual school counselor in an urban setting. My students come to school with a variety of different life experiences. Some may have gone through adverse experiences that have impacted their sense of safety and/or well being and their ability to sustain attention in school to succeed. Others may experience academic struggles and have limited support from adults at home due to various factors.
As soon as they walk through our doors, they may have had a challenging morning already.
They may have not been able to eat a healthy breakfast, but they come to school where they can eat breakfast (many of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals) before starting their school day and it's a safe, comfortable environment in which we care about their success as a whole child.
Every day that I work with our students I know that they have the potential to grow as learners and to develop strong social emotional skills that will help them to problem solve, demonstrate empathy for others, regulate their emotions in healthy ways, challenge themselves to have a growth mindset and be kind and caring individuals of our community.
My Project
Some of our students come to school wearing very worn, stained uniforms and/or clothes that they have outgrown throughout the school year. They may be hand me downs that are too small or too big but some families may not be able to buy additional sets of uniforms as the year goes on. Some students come to school wearing the same uniforms for multiple days with visible stains, and tears or navy blue pants that are too short in length. They may wear the same pair of pants or the same white polo shirts for a few days because they may have limited number of uniforms to wear to school. Students may come to school feeling embarrassed or not as comfortable when they are wearing uniforms that do not fit properly and/or may be very worn with holes, tears, and stains.
We are in need of new school uniforms for our students with greatest need and those whose families cannot purchase new uniforms throughout the school year for various reasons which may include financial constraints.
We want our students with these needs to come to school feeling confident and comfortable. We have asked for the sizes that we have found we have been in need of the most. Although our school has had gently used uniform drives in past, the sizes of uniforms in my project are ones that are scarcely available for us to give to students who have the need. By having these greatly needed new white polo shirts, navy blue sweaters and uniform pants available in these sizes it will increase our likelihood to be able to provide students with the new uniforms that they will feel comfortable and proud to wear to school.
