School Uniforms For Our Homeless Students

My students need school uniforms. Students that do not where uniforms cannot participate in many activities that are held throughout the day.

My Students

As a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic Title I school, all the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 13 students. My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom. They are academically two years below grade level. Many of my students come from single-parent homes. Although my kids have varying disabilities (LD, Autism, ED and Mentally Handicapped), they are eager to learn and succeed. I want to provide an atmosphere that is safe, and welcoming. Help me engage and inspire my students by becoming a partner in their learning.

My Project

Uniforms are strictly enforced in our school. Students without uniforms are prohibited to participate in the numerous activities that are held throughout the day. Students are required to wear uniform sweatpants to gym. Our homeless students rarely wear uniforms which causes them to miss out on many of the fun activities throughout the day.

Providing uniforms for our homeless students gives them the opportunity to participate in gym, recess and blend in with their peers.

Also, it allows all our students to feel part of the school community. We want all our students to feel part of our team.
