We have around 45 students with special needs in 1st grade through 6th grade, divided between three different classrooms. The students in our classrooms are often either Intellectually disabled, have autism, or multiple disabilities.
In our classroom they receive academic, physical, and behavior support.
We need the T-shirts to help us provide behavior support including monitoring their safety. When we take them on field trips we have them all wear the school shirts. This helps us keep an eye on all of the students.
We have been using some old ones in our closet. However, they are mismatched and worn out. Also, on our last outing, two other schools also had navy shirts. This made it even harder to monitor our kids. We are looking to replace the old shirts with new brights ones that will be easily visible.
My Project
We need T-shirts to help our students with special needs participate in out-of-school activities such as field trips and sports day. We have students with many different needs. Their needs impact their communication and behavior. For instance, we have a student who will run from the group and leave the area if they are not constantly monitored.
Whenever we leave the school we are concerned about being able to keep our students safe.
Because of their communication disabilities, many of our kids are not able to communicate their needs. If they get lost they cannot ask for help, many cannot even provide their name if asked. This means that we need to know where they are at all times.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
