Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students at my school are considered to be from areas with the lowest socioeconomic status. They often come from single parent households. Older students have the responsibility of helping raise their younger siblings. They do not have the funds to purchase school supplies. Students are lacking in basic reading skills and are several years behind when it comes to reading levels. Finding materials that interest them is a challenge. These students need encouragement to read about current and interesting topics that they have interest in! They also need basic school supplies to be successful.

My Project

Students at my school struggle purchasing school supplies because of their low socioeconomic status. Now that it is second semester, students are in need of basic pencils, notebooks, and folders. Using colorful ink helps students focus on tasks, especially when writing. Also using bright colored paper to display their writing helps students' self esteem. Pencils are an everyday necessity that student do not have the ability to provide due to low socioeconomic status backgrounds. Students in middle school struggle with organization, so the notebooks and folders are important to help teach organization and to help them be prepared for life.
