Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a reading specialist, I work with struggling readers in first and second grade. Reading does not come easily to many of my students. These students will become good readers, but they need a little help.

We have both academic challenges and significant socioeconomic challenges.

At my school, 100% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch which means it is categorized as "highest poverty." All students deserve the same educational opportunities, but my students are at a disadvantage.

I try to give my students quality instruction, quality materials, and a quality learning environment.

My Project

Many of my students will not be able to bring supplies from home due to financial constraints. I like to provide them with the basic supplies that that they will need to succeed in school

I will give my students supplies to use both at school and at home.

Each student will get a pencil case, pencils, crayons, scissors and a glue stick so they are ready to work and learn. They will use them in school and at home for homework.

These supplies are critical for reading, writing and learning. But, new supplies also make us excited to learn - there is nothing like shiny, new school supplies!
