School Supplies for Struggling Students

Help me give my students necessary school supplies to stay organized and succeed!

My Students

As an alumnus from this school myself, having taught there my entire teaching career and still living in the neighborhood just two blocks away from the school, I have a deep connection to my students. My students are what make teaching worth it every single day. My students work hard, and they are super excited to learn and grow.

Our school is one of the most culturally diverse schools in Chicago with over 45 languages spoken!

It is a Level 1+ elementary school, and while our academic performance might be successful, many of the social and economic needs of our students create struggles. Over 90% of our students qualify for free lunch. The pandemic has also greatly altered the lives of our students causing trauma, learning loss, and disconnection to school. My aim is to foster a welcoming and calm classroom environment that will help all of my students succeed socially and academically in their transition back to in-person learning.

My Project

The pandemic has unfortunately put a huge financial strain on our already impoverished families. I noticed that most of my students can not afford basic school supplies this year such as notebooks, folders, markers, and glue. This has had an emotional effect on our incredibly resilient students as well. They try to cope by asking if they can take notes or complete projects on a word document since they do not have any new notebooks or supplies. With your kind and generous support, I would like to purchase new folders, post-its, and print materials for students to have the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. I want them to step away from their screens and be involved in more kinesthetic activities which in turn will foster tremendous problem soloing and critical thinking skills. Thank you for your consideration and support!
