This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a first grade bilingual class in a low income/high poverty area. My students come from many different Spanish speaking countries and are faced with daily difficulties as they and their families try to search for the American Dream. My school provides some supplies to take away any unnecessary stress but is not enough.

Our first graders are on a journey to learn the English language.

Once they adquire a solid foundation in reading and writing in their native language, transition to English is almost instantly. They love to learn new vocabulary words and topics that are relevant to them. They are unique and certainly full of energy. Always eager to learn and share despite their challenges.

My Project

Our bilingual classroom is in need of some basic tools that so far are almost gone. We have been using a small hand held pencil sharpener since our electric one broke a couple weeks ago. Having pencils sharpened before the school day starts is imperative for the students to start and complete their daily work. We also need dry erase markers that are very popular during our different subject learning activities such as ELA and MATH center rotations, fundations whole group dictation, and math whole group activities. Also, they allow us to save the planet from using too much paper. However, they go out of ink pretty fast. Finally, we need cap erasers, glue sticks and pencils as well as chart paper since these consumables were not enough to start the beginning of the year in a classroom that estimated 24 students and started with 30 instead.

These supplies will allow my students to continue their successful learning throughout the different content areas.

My students will not have to worry about not having basic tools of learning to work throughout the day. We will be so excited to thank you to make this project available to us. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
