This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have survived two years of the pandemic and experienced virtual learning, hybrid learning and now FINALLY consistent in-person learning. In addition, I have students who are new to the United States of America and they speak very little or no English.

At this time, most of my students are struggling academically and emotionally.

The pandemic shut-down took a big toll on these young students. My students are 6th graders who have experienced a lot in the past two years. They are now excited to be regularly back in school and have a strong desire to learn, grow and be change makers in our society.

We are getting towards the end of the school year and the end of many of our classroom supplies. After having been behind screens for so long, my students are enjoying "Old fashioned paper and pencils." That's their joke. My students need to read written materials and hand-write some assignments. Writing their assignments will help further develop their fine motor skills and there is a connection between writing and imprinting information on the brain. Yes, we will still use technology for many assignments, but we also need to read from a paper and hand-write work. I need to be able to print worksheets and articles for my students. When they complete a typed assignment, we need to print it in order to showcase their work for the school community to read and appreciate the students' hard work!
