Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The leadership students of GHS have exhibited leadership and motivation to keep the East Los Angeles school community feel connected during the pandemic. These students have taken on multiple opportunities to keep students and staff feel supported and connected to one another. Students would like to continue this by supporting our population of 2500 inner- city youth students by offering weekly student recognition and mental health tips to support students during the pandemic.
My Project
Laptops will support with teaching students how to work together and create videos that will support with school spirit and celebrate achievements. As the COVID numbers in Los Angeles increases, students are discouraged and unmotivated to participate in school. We hope that weekly announcements will create an uplifting spirit in our school community. Announcements will be video-taped, produced, and edited to share with the student body and the school community.
Leadership students will be increasing school spirit and support by creating online school announcements that celebrate academics and provides resources for the school community.
For example, one component of the announcements will provide information on free resources to our families. This may include food bank locations and COVID testing sites. In addition, students will support their peers by recognizing senior athletes that will not have their usual senior game. These are students that have played for four years and will not have the opportunity to play their senior year. Lastly, students will share mental health tips to address the increasing number of students that are experiencing anxiety and stress in these uncertain times. These are just a few examples of what the announcements will encompass.
