My Students

My students are an incredibly sweet, inquisitive group, always excited to learn new things. They ask a lot of questions when there is an opportunity to explore.

Part of our class mission statement is, "We are super leaders; we will never give up!" We wrote it together and repeat it every day.

They are great at supporting and encouraging each other.

Our school is a Title I school where over half receive free or reduced-price lunches (during a normal year). We are in a rural area, but my students all live in town. I have several ESL students. Their academic abilities range from considerably below grade level to well above grade level.

My Project

Unfortunately, my class doesn't know what a "normal" school year looks like. Students are stressed out and academically behind our typical pacing. My goal is for my students to want to come to school and want to learn! I've chosen items with that goal in mind.

Adding these items to those I have already collected, my students won't even know they are learning because they will be enjoying it so much!

Win-win situations for everyone!

Superhero capes have been powerful reminders to my students of the value and strengths of each person, and we need more to keep up with our growing class size. Lab coats will be used with the safety glasses we already have to help students see themselves as serious learners and "real" scientists! Magnifying glasses will help our study of landforms, as well as other elements of students' environment, be easier to see and understand. We will make slime using a variety of ingredients, while learning about properties of matter. Many of my students need the extra help to concentrate in class that fidgets and visual timers give them. The other fidgets and small toys will be used as items to be purchased in a class store. This will solidify what they have learned in our money unit as well as financial literacy. The arts are always crucial to student engagement and strong emotional stability. Items such as paint, felt, foam, ultra thin Sharpies, bright markers and fuse beads will go a long way to fill this need. Last but not least at all, are book that my students have specifically requested. How can I say no when they are asking to read?!
