My students need a document camera in the classroom so that the whole group can see teacher modeled lessons such as; teacher annotations of a text while reading.
My students are currently at a school with limited technology. We have gotten better throughout the years adding more computers, but there is still a lack of technology in individual classrooms. I would like them to be able to see explicit modeling of my thinking as I am teaching concepts.
My students are from low income socioeconomic status and are in great need of technology in the classroom to benefit their learning.
They go to a culturally diverse school with a high Hispanic population. These English Language Learners lack the same background knowledge that children born in America have. Adding technology to the classroom will help paint a picture of a lot of the concepts we are referring to in class.
My Project
I am asking for a document camera to benefit my students' learning. A lot of times I model my thinking as a reader to help the students actually see what "good readers" do when they are reading. With a document camera, I would be able to display a text for the entire class to see and they could actually see my annotations on the paper as I am doing them. My hope is that the students will see what I do as a good reader on my paper with the document paper and will start doing it on their own independently to help themselves become better readers.
This project is so important, because I feel that this piece of technology will really help students become more deep about the texts that they are reading.
They will see how I interact and close read a text. I am teaching in a school where technology is scarce and 35 staff members are sharing one document camera. It is hard to implement desired lessons, and the outcome that they inspire in me, for my students without this technology.
