Help me give my students necessary garden supplies for our school garden. We need the umbrella and stand to provide shade for our outdoor lessons and we are expanding our garden and need a 100 ft durable hose.
Cloverdale is the most northern town of Sonoma County and is an interesting blend of agriculture, lumbering, new business, housing growth, and an artistic, sustainable-minded community. Our students are very interested in nature and frequent the local lake, river, and creeks. Our Elementary School hosts a growing population of 568 students, 44% English Language Learners and 66% Free and Reduced Lunch.
Our students are very excited to get their hands in the dirt and observe their plants grow!
Some have experience with gardening at home, but many are curious to try something new besides sports and video-games. When we are out in the garden, they solve real-life problems with their hands, such as laying drip irrigation, digging holes deep enough for plants, learning how to water, and observing their plants attract new insects and worms. They are very careful and observant and are excited to watch an empty patch of dirty grass grow into something colorful, edible, and fun!
My Project
Our school garden is expanding and we are using the area more frequently. The students need more access to shade when we are outdoors. We also need a longer hose in order to water farther to reach areas.
Our PTA is generously helping to donate a new shed and this grant will help to provide the tool racks and organizers for inside the new shed.
This way more teachers will be able to access the supplies.
With the installation of the new shed, we will be expanding the garden area and would like to create a pathway with the arch and growing vines to create another outdoor learning area. Our goal is to get more teachers in the garden area doing projects or simply reading a story out there. With an organized shed, new planting areas, a friendly archway, and much needed shade from the umbrella, teachers and students will feel more at ease in learning outdoors.
