Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At my school, students of color are able to receive a quality education. My low income school serves students who typically fall into the opportunity and achievement gaps. My second graders face numerous challenges every day and yet they still show up to school with smiles on their faces. These students are resilient! My students are eager to learn and absorb all the knowledge they can.

Lifelong learners, community leaders and college bound scholars grow in this classroom.

This special group of second graders, including students who have mild and severe special needs, want to redo our school garden. Our school garden is a special place that needs some extra love. Students will learn about life science while rebuilding garden beds, planting seeds, tending to the existing plants, and watching their creation flourish!

My Project

My second graders are longing to be able to use the school garden. Right now, our school garden lives outside our classroom but it is not a useable space. My students want to rebuild our garden! Students will use the supplies we are asking for to rebuild the garden beds, plant new seeds, water their seeds and watch their garden come to life!

The donations to this project will allow students to engage hands-on with life sciences.

Students will spend time in the classroom learning about the life cycles of plants. Students will then apply their knowledge first hand by planting and tending to their seeds and plants as they grow.

The goal is for students to be able to plant food that they can grow and then take home with them. Our school community faces food insecurity and this project will not only teach students the life cycle of a plant and how to farm for their own food but it also creates a resource for families to use when they are facing difficult times.
