School Counselor Professional Growth - National Board Certification

I need National Board Certification to be the best possible school counselor that I can be for my students. I am requesting assistance with the four component submission fees for National Board certification.

My Students

My students attend a high school in a small, rural community that serves a large swath of the county. Situated a 45-minute drive north of the nearest, large metro area, my school hosts approximately 77% of students from low-income homes. My student body is diverse and has the largest percentage of Native American students of any high school within the school district. Likewise, my students are unique; unique in their learning styles, their abilities, and their interests. Many of my students' parents commute to work as professionals in the metro area, work at a number of manufacturing facilities along a nearby river, or work as manual or technical laborers in a variety of fields.

I serve as the professional school counselor to approximately 400 freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors within my school.

I am excited about having them back on campus for this school year. After a tough 20-21 school year with the many challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, many students are transitioning from a completely digital learning environment back to a face-to-face environment.

My Project

Through this project, I plan to become a National Board Certified Teacher in School Counseling. I am requesting assistance with the registration fee ($75) as well as the fee for the four components ($475 each) that are required for submission to the National Board program.

I want to be the best professional school counselor possible for my students.

While my school counseling program already aligns with the American School Counselor Association's National Model, the process of working toward National Board Certification will give me opportunities to evaluate the professional that I am and present evidence of the professional that I aspire to be.
