This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students that I have the blessing to work with daily are extensions of their community. They are predominately students of color who come from environments farrowed with barriers to their development. These barriers are included but are not limited to mental health needs such as stress, trauma, anxiety and social emotional deficits. 85% of my student population receive free and reduced lunch and more than half are below grade level with regards to academic proficiency. They need support to improve their overall outcomes. Resources however can be difficult to come by and funding even more so. My students require a unique approach and delivery when providing them support that nurtures their ability for healthy self-expression.
My Project
Help us give our students engaging and interactive resources, tools and prizes to encourage positive behavior and academic excellence. It is essential that we use creative ways to deliver our counseling curriculum to students and in order to do so in an efficient and practical manner - we need the tools to support! The Cricut machines will allow each counselor to create manipulatives, prizes and interactive resources that students can use during direction support services. These resources will increate student engagement and interaction in the lessons, while providing resources that can grab their attention and interest and increase our chance of success! From T-shirts to Keychains to even a tool to use with students in a creative expression small group, the possibilities are endless with this machine!
