My Students

Our school district is one of the most diverse in the country that encompasses almost 2000 square miles! Our high school is one of eight comprehensive high schools in the city of Anchorage, Alaska and has an enrollment of 1366 students. We serve a racially and ethnically diverse student population. The majority of our students are Asian or Pacific Islander, followed by Caucasians, Multi Ethnic groups, Hispanic, African American and Alaska Native.

Our school is a Title I high school, tucked in between the beautiful Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet of the Pacific Ocean.

Our school's mission, and my mission as a teacher, is to inspire students to seek education and truth and join a community of life-long learners.

My Project

Our school adopted an earbud-free policy two years ago to encourage better communication with and amongst students. The results have been amazing, however it has led to some challenges as a teacher in the classroom. There are times when my students need to listen to videos, online tutorials or virtual labs on the Chromebooks and it is too loud and distracting to have the audio playing on every computer.

A classroom set of school-approved headphones would not only abide by our school policy but truly enhance the online learning environment for the students.

Students would be able to use the headphones during station labs and virtual tutorials in a more independent learning setting rather than having to pause and listen to the content via the main class projector.
