Scholastic Scholars Blast Off to the Past!

Help me give my students an engaging Social Studies curriculum with relevant, exciting topics that they can explore and research. Due to district budget constraints, we no longer have resources for Social Studies instruction.

My Project

Understanding our “yesterday,” lays the foundation for our “today and tomorrow.” I am requesting Scholastic Scope magazines for my 3rd grade students because I know my students enjoy engaging and collaborating with relevant topics that not only explain our present, but embrace a history that sparks strong discussions. Students can’t understand the present if they haven’t been exposed to the past.

While many students find history, geography, civics, and economics to be a bore, Scholastic Scope magazines give my students crisp, student-friendly graphics, tables, charts and relatable information.

It also gives students a fun online experience, using hands-on activities, educational videos, close-reading (which ties into our reading curriculum) and games to help them stay motivated to learn. They can even begin to research these topics independently to expand on their writing skills. My goal for this project is to give students a deep appreciation for our past so they can better understand our present and future, while keeping them engaged with both print and strong technology integration.

My students are very special in that they are diverse in their learning styles and needs. Yet, they each can benefit from a differentiated, and engaging curriculum that embraces historical foundations in a relevant context. Scholastic Scope is a strong cross-curricular tool that can help my students not just in Social Studies, but in every core subject. Your donations will help my class achieve their goals and expand their minds as they become “Scholastic Scholars!”
