Over the past 12 years as a teacher I have had the privilege to teach many outstanding and unique students. I have taught in my current community for the past 3 years, in both 1st and 3rd grade. I teach a in a diverse community, representing multiple cultures and over 20 languages, as well as a variety of home life experiences. We embrace the diversity in our classroom to create a school family. My students care for each other and work together to become the best students and citizens they can be in our school and community.
I will take this opportunity to grow as a reading teacher. I want to use books and reading to inspire young readers to become passionate about reading.
I will have the opportunity to learn how to boost reading comprehension, vocabulary skills and background knowledge with the use of read alouds.
I am excited to hear about experiences other teachers have had with using author's voice. I would love to use this in my own classroom of diverse learners to share our cultures, traditions and experiences through the"voice" of my students. I can't wait to take in all of the knowledge and experiences from other professionals to help engage my students in learning, as will as, enhance my own skill set as a teacher.
