My Students
My school is located in a low-income urban area. Our entire school receives free breakfast, lunch, and a fruit or vegetable snack every day. Many of my children come from cultures where English is not their native language, it is their second language. They are learning at levels of extreme variation, from being an emergent learner to a gifted and talented learner. For lots of my students, school is the only stable and positive environment in their lives. They look forward to being here, and thrive on learning. They are seeking out an education that will help them accomplish their dreams, and now they need the tools to be successful.
My Project
We will use these magazines each day to stay up to date on the most current events that tie into our science and social studies units. The magazines will also help support students in growing their ability to use nonfiction text features to assist in their research of new topics.
It will be extremely exciting for students to also have their own copy of each monthly issue of the magazine to take home, and share with their families.
Connecting the learning at school to home is crucial for the academic success of all students. Scholastic news provides students with articles that are current and engaging!
