Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students LOVE to read and do math in the classroom, but they have a very hard time relating these skills to "real life" situations and understanding why we need these skills in our lives.
I am so lucky to teach the most amazing 4th grade class of ELLs (English Language Learners) in Brooklyn, New York.
Most of my students were recently relocated to the USA from Central and South America. They are smart, witty, charming, mischievous, funny, and very curious about life and learning. Our resources are very limited at our school, and many of my students face extreme financial hardship. Twenty percent of our school's student population are living in some form of "transitional housing," including shelters or abandoned properties.
My Project
I am requesting two magazine subscriptions to promote math and English language skills and relate these content areas to "real life" practical applications. By using these magazines, I hope to further encourage my students' love for learning and help them see that what they learn every day in school is applicable to our daily lives.
I am constantly working to encourage my students to LOVE learning, make goals, and develop into kind, responsible young girls and boys who make a difference in their community.
My students are so grateful for any and all supplemental learning resources. These magazines will help to encourage them to stay excited and enthusiastic about learning.
