This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a great group of students this year! My first graders are excited about the school year and so am I. All of my students contribute to each lesson by listening actively, participating in discussions as well as group work and completing activities and assignments. We are hoping to soar through the school year with flying colors!
But we are actually limited in resources to help us accomplish our goals.
Our school is located in Detroit, MI where schools are failing academically and financially. I want to be able to give each and every one of my students an environment where they have multiple avenues of learning.
My Project
My students attend a Title I school in Detroit where supplies are limited. They are great kids and are eager to learn. The adjustable pocket chart will help with making the weeks sight words visible to all students at all times. They can refer to the chart during writing assignments or sight word practice. The extra white board space will allow learning to happen up close. During whole group discussion, students ideas and responses that contribute to the lesson can be written down on the white board. The ideas can then be shared at the end of the lesson as a review.
