Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The magnet program at the school is for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. My school's students are approximately 75% minority, most students are from low-income families, and we are low-performing according to the state test. Our goal is to graduate students who are ready for college or a career.
Most of my students have little access to technology at home.
Therefore, they are unable to complete certain types of assignments. Some may have a computer with internet access, but they don't have printers or scanners.
Despite all this, my students come to school eager to learn and ready to use any technology I put in front of them.
My Project
Even though we are moving into the digital age and toward e-portfolios of work, hard copies are invaluable for certain assignments, so access to a printer in the classroom is essential.
Currently, students have to leave the classroom to retrieve anything they want to print (and they can't print anything in color).
Anything handwritten must be digitized in order for it to be placed in an e-portfolio, but students at my school currently have zero access to a scanner. We need an all-in-one color printer so that we can scan, print, and share in both black & white and color. Throughout the year we will use the printer/scanner for e-portfolios, multi-genre projects, children's books, digital informational texts, and more!
