Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many students are turned off by science because they're intimidated by the content, and they have a difficult time relating it to their lives. My goal is to create an open and inviting environment where all students feel like they can be scientists.
My students are from the southern part of our city.
Due to the issues my students face on an everyday basis, many of my students have an interest in fields that serve others. Because of this, I've created an Investigative Biology course, which allows students to dive into the role of scientists and medical professionals. This allows students to use science to fuel their interest in social and biological issues that directly affect their lives.
My Project
I'm so happy to see all of my students back in the classroom, but I'd be even more happy if I could hear them! Masks and social distancing has made it very difficult for me to hear my students speak and has made it very difficult to hold class discussions.
Students have been away from each other for so long, that they need help reconnecting.
Class discussions can help my students connect and share ideas, however, they need a little help from this Qball throwable microphone so that they can actually hear one another through their masks.
