Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Questions, comments, or compliments?" This is a phrase we use all day, every day in my class. Students are encouraged to share their ideas and work while classmates learn to ask questions, give constructive criticism, and to compliment their peers. I believe these are such important life skills!
Diversity, high poverty, and a HUGE love of learning: those phrases describe my class and my school as a whole.
My children have not been given the best circumstances, but you would never know it by their smiling faces and great attitudes as they enter our classroom each day. We are a school with over 90% low income families and over 90% minorities. School is a safe place for many of my children and they love coming every day. The majority of my students are Hispanic and English Language Learners. I have the best kids in the world and I want to provide them every opportunity to become the best they can be!
My Project
Where do I begin?! A document camera would project images onto our Promethean board and would benefit us in so many ways! Students will be able to...
1. Show their problem solving strategies in math and explain their work.
2. Share their writing pieces and illustrations with the class.
3. Practice their speaking skills as they become the teacher and hopefully curb the oh-so-common fear of public speaking.
4. Practice their ability to critique, question, and compliment the work of their peers.
5. Build vocabulary and practice proper grammar as they share, which is great for our English learners.
6. See the pages of our read aloud books and lessons.
7. Students can "highlight" text evidence on our board while projecting pages of books in which we cannot write.
8. Gain a love of collaboration and build self confidence!
The list goes on and on!
As we teach our children, we are building the future.
I want to develop in my children confidence, creativity, communication, constructive criticism, and collaboration! I encourage unique problem solving and want my students to be able to discuss the ideas of others. Thank you so much for your interest in my kiddos. We have to believe in them until they believe in themselves!
