My students need these resources and curriculum in order to help them learn how to identify their emotions, deescalate when they are upset, and interact appropriately with their peers.
As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My class serves students with a range of disabilities such as Specific Learning Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Despite the challenges that these children face, these children touch my heart each and every day.
They are so excited to come to school each day and share many smiles, laughs, and hugs as they learn new things.
My Project
When upset, the disappointment and anger that many of my children feel, overwhelms them making it very difficult for them to focus on school work. These resources and curriculum will help my students learn to regulate their attention and emotions, so that they are more successful in forming and maintaining long term relationships with their grade level peers in the general education classroom. My Book of Feelings and My Moods, My Choices will be used to help students identify what they are feeling and positive choices that they can make. The Superflex Curriculum will be used during a social skills group to help students understand how their brain works and help them learn to regulate the feelings that overwhelm them. The fidgets, squishy toys, Find It, glitter wands, ear muffs, and timer will be used as strategies to help the students deescalate when the students are upset.
