In our classroom, organization and predictability are especially important. Students are able to see where materials belong and independently access many of the tools they need throughout the day. Having clearly organized materials helps reduce distractions and allows students to focus more successfully on learning.\r\n\r\nThe Lakeshore Double-Sided Magnetic Phonics Tiles have quickly become a favorite during our reading and phonics activities. Students use the magnetic tiles to build words, practice letter sounds, work on spelling patterns, and experiment with putting sounds together to make words. Because the activity is hands-on and visual, it provides an engaging way for students to practice important reading skills. Students have been excited to choose the letters they need, build their words, and proudly show their finished work.\r\n\r\nThe Childcraft Manipulative Alphabet Learning Locks have also brought a lot of excitement to our literacy activities. Students match letters, practice recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters, and work on beginning sounds while manipulating the locks. The hands-on nature of the activity makes learning feel more like play, and I have seen students become eager to keep trying when they encounter a challenging letter or sound. The sense of accomplishment they get when they successfully connect a lock is wonderful to see!\r\n\r\nOur Counting Peg Board has provided another engaging way for students to practice counting, number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and early math concepts. Students enjoy physically placing the pegs and seeing the numbers represented in a concrete way. This type of hands-on learning is particularly helpful for students who benefit from being able to touch, move, and visually see mathematical concepts rather than only working with numbers on a worksheet.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these materials have given my students more opportunities to learn through movement, touch, repetition, and visual supports. Those experiences are incredibly valuable in our autism classroom. I have watched students become curious about the new materials, eagerly explore them, and celebrate their successes. Some students who may be hesitant to participate in traditional academic activities are much more willing to engage when they can interact with the materials and experience immediate feedback.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and believing that they deserve engaging, meaningful opportunities to learn.
