This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second graders who are learning in two languages (English and Spanish). They come from different backgrounds ( race, social-economic, language). I have one class in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The morning class is a structured class, they follow routines, rules and most of the students work independently. I have four students who need to work in small groups to acquire the lesson.

My students from the afternoon class need several reminders to focus on task, they need directions and reminders to help them finish the math activities.

My Project

My students will benefit using the timers and the register cashier to make the transition time during math centers and activities smoother. They will be able to take responsibility for the time and master the skill of responsibility. Math centers have a duration of 15 minutes, students rotate to different tables after the time is gone. When students see the timer, they will be able to keep control of the time and be aware they have a specific time to finish the activity.

Students' big challenge is to master the skill of counting and identify money.

The register cashier will help me to create enjoyable and real-life activities to make the acquisition of this lesson more effective.
