My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community, and I have 28 students in my class. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.
I grew up in this city, and I truly believe I am meant to teach here and give back all I can to my hometown.
My school is a magical place. Despite the challenging home lives of many, my students walk in the door of our quaint little building and are welcomed with heartfelt greetings and genuine smiles, and they are ready to be the best they can be.
Our staff provides specific academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students to meet their specific needs so they can reach their personal potential. I am blessed to witness incredible student growth during each school year, a result of the dedication of my colleagues and the hard work of our students.
My Project
We go through an embarrassing number of Ziploc bags at my school over the course of a week, a month, a year. Bags are a great way to divide up materials, store center tools, directions/gameboards, and accountability evidence, and just a general classroom must-have.
Will you help us to reduce the waste of plastic baggies and keep our classroom materials organized in a more environmental-friendly way?
Especially during this pandemic, we try to reduce sharing of materials as much as possible, but a set of these mesh bags for each classroom will help teachers keep materials safe, separate, and organized so students can continue to learn and grow. The color coding is especially helpful as we differentiate games and workshops based on students' needs and interests. If we just let students know which color is for them, transitions become smoother and easier.
