Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Every day, my students think about ways they can be kind to our planet. Everyone has ways to reduce, reuse and recycle at home but we all agreed we could do more at school.

As a class, we knew there were ways we could become more "green" at school.

After brainstorming ways to help, we decided we could make some classroom changes to conserve paper.

Our first idea was to start using individual white boards instead of so much paper to complete math problems.

Second, instead of replacing bulletin board paper and construction paper in the hallway and classroom every month, we could laminate patterned paper to decorate. Once laminated, that paper could be reused for years to come.

Finally, we knew we were going through a lot of folders because the paper folders get damaged and torn so easily. By changing to plastic folders, we don't have to replace folders so often. These folders can withstand being pulled in and out of desks multiple times each day. Plus, they can be wiped clean for next year's third graders to use.
