Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The “THUMP…THUMP” of a persons heartbeat is one of the most precious sounds in life…my students experience the opposite, DEATH, on a constant basis. The DEATH of a family member, loved one, or classmate due to accidents or violence is something my students have become desensitized to, numb to the fact a life was lost or taken senselessly. I HAVE FOUND A WAY TO HELP LOWER THESE NUMBERS…My Emergency Critical Care class that I teach in a high-need community high school in NJ. My class is offered to seniors who may not want to go the traditional college route BUT do want to be positive members of society. Over the last three years since I began this class I have successfully certified ALL 42 students in CPR/AED, as a first responder, and landed 19 of the with local emergency squads as volunteers in training

This has been accomplished with 1 CPR manikin, NO AED trainer, and little to no supplies (bandages, splints, etc.). They watch over 75 hours of videos, but have little opportunity to practice with hands on for the State test…but they still pass with flying colors. I teach my students detailed anatomy and physiology, and all the skills needed to help save a life, how? With passion, mixed with, discipline, and a splash of love!

With the purchase of new manikins, AED trainers, and trauma kits simply passing the State test is no longer an option but a MUST…we got, we use it, we WILL SUCCEDE!

I have had students express things like “Coach my little brother was choking and I knew what to do”, or “Mr. B I was at a party and my friend got stabbed, I think I saved his life with what I did until the ambulance got there, THANK YOU for this class”. Imagine if my class had up-to-date materials, working supplies, and your help to get these things! Imagine how many more people may continue to hear that precious “THUMP THUMP” one more day because of my Emergency Critical Care class…KEEP KIDS ALIVE; please donate to my project
