The “THUMP…THUMP” of a persons heartbeat is one of the most precious sounds in life…my students experience the opposite, DEATH, on a constant basis. The DEATH of a family member, loved one, or classmate due to accidents or violence is something my students have become desensitized to, numb to the fact a life was lost or taken senselessly. I HAVE FOUND A WAY TO HELP LOWER THESE NUMBERS…My Emergency Critical Care class that I teach in a high-need community high school in NJ. My class is offered to seniors who may not want to go the traditional college route BUT do want to be positive members of society. Over the last three years since I began this class I have successfully certified ALL 42 students in CPR/AED, as a first responder, and landed 19 of the with local emergency squads as volunteers in training
