Save Our Ceramics!

My students need a ceramics kiln to replace our very old electric kiln that just died. Please help us keep ceramics in our high school!

My Students

While our school is a small arts and sciences academy (about 500 9th through 12th graders), we are a public school who focuses on developing well rounded young people who are strong in both their core academic studies, as well as the arts.

Approximately 71% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and many young people who graduate from our school are the first in their families to go to college.

Since we reformed our old public high school and opened our doors 10 years ago, we have overcome tremendous obstacles with our student population and limited facilities and resources. Most of our success is due to our dedicated staff who always puts positive relationships with students first, followed by integrating core content with creativity and real world problem-solving.

Our students are bright, creative, and incredibly grateful for authentic experiences and materials when they are available.

My Project

I have found that our young people will work so hard when they have authentic work to produce. The work that challenges them to stay late and pour their best into a finished product is so often tied to a decent creative tool with a powerful purpose.

Over the past decade, our old electric kiln has performed admirably and we have done our best to care for it.

However, this kiln was quite used when we inherited it and it finally died at the end of last year. Our kids love ceramics! Please help them to keep this successful program alive. Our budget doesn't allow for us to purchase this much needed piece of equipment and without a new kiln, this program will die.
