Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Sarah's Project group is made up of students from third through eighth grade. These children come from a very diverse population; the majority of the knitters come from low income homes, speak two or more languages, and have a strong desire to learn new things.

In addition, quite a few of these children do not participate in any other extracurricular activities due to economics, transportation, self-confidence or parental involvement.

Learning to knit has given these sometimes overlooked kids a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

My Project

Sarah's Project KNIT is off to a great start thanks to the wonderful donors who funded the first phase of this project. The knitters are casting on, casting off, knitting, and purling like the pros! Step into our room any Tuesday after school and you'll be delighted by the industrious sound of needles clicking away and children engaged in productive conversation.

Sarah's Project KNIT - The Sequel will take the children's knitting expertise to the next level.

Incorporating stitch markers, needle caps, scissors, gauge markers, and yarn winder to the supply cart will allow the introduction of more complicated, challenging and exciting projects!
