Kindergarten students are naturally inquisitive, creative, and eager to learn! My incredible young scholars reside in King George, Virginia, a mostly rural community. My students have a variety of unique experiences and backgrounds. Many of their parents may have served in the military or are affiliated with local bases.
Every day these young scholars put forth their best effort and are excited about the discoveries we will make together!
A child's experience in kindergarten plants the seed of their educational adventure that will grow the rest of their lives. I am enjoying teaching all their bright smiling faces five full days a week in person this year!
My Project
Children are spending more time, “plugged in” than ever before. I hope to facilitate new sensory experiences with the addition of these items to my classroom. Remember when you stuck your hand into a pumpkin? How cold, squishy, and interesting it felt? Sensory experiences really stick with us. Sensory play encourages language and fine motor development, as well as social interaction. My students will use these items to discover, explore, build, create, and problem-solve with their peers.
Can't you see them pouring, molding, kneading, filling, and so much more?!
This type of play is natural and highly engaging; a sure powerhouse for learning! These items also provide an opportunity for students to calm down if they get overstimulated, upset, or overwhelmed. Providing mental health resources to our youngest students is so important. The table, bins, and lids are easily cleaned with wipes/disinfectant spray we already have. Lastly, the bins are extremely versatile in that they can be filled with almost anything! I picture us going on a nature hunt and filling it with leaves and other treasures we find.
