I teach 18 enthusiastic, fun loving kindergarten children whose ages range from 5-7 years old. They are all eager to become readers, solve math problems and learn about science and social studies. Even though the school year is coming to an end, there is still time to add more resources to their learning.
At this age, learning is a new, fun adventure and my goal as their teacher is to foster this adventure.
Our school year consists of traditional and modern learning. Every day we have time for math and language arts centers which the kids choose the one where they want to learn. This choice in the center allows them to feel ownership and pride towards learning.
My request is to receive funding for sand table and sand so they can have use their imaginations. Thank you.
My Project
The sand table will not only be used for the children to play and use their imaginations, it will also be used to incorporate math, science, language arts and social skills. An example of a language arts lesson would be for the children to find the letters in the sand to spell CVC words. In math, children will learn how to problem solve and learn concepts such as volume and cups. Making different shapes using the sand also develops their mathematical reasoning. They will use higher level thinking to figure out how many cups it takes to fill a bucket. Scientific concepts such as motion occurs when they're using different objects to push and pull through the sand. Language development and social skills develop because the children learn how to take turns and share. They will use their imaginations while creating different settings for their play..
