Samsungsft STEM - Problem Solving to a Better Tomorrow
Help me give my students STEM creation tools like Makey-makeys, Microbits and Playground Express circuits to help them problem solve and tinker and innovate.
We are a Title I School in an city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse and at risk readers,. Many are also homeless and from low income households. However, they are warm, loving and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 17 years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
Samsungsft STEM will enable scholars to help solve traffic related incidents in the community. Through learning LED programming and creating a product that shines brightly, scholars can learn to save lives and give back by using STEM to add value to community members' lives. Children will learn to use LED lights and program messages into apparel that will become smart wearables that will transform the community and ensure safety. Through science, technology, engineering and math, children will also explore, discover, tinker, create and innovate to a better tomorrow. The purpose of this project is to provide a safe solution through the creation of wearable flashing LED jackets, hats and baby stroller boards that have changeable flashing messages on the back. Jacket owners can select preprogrammed messages to turn on. Messages will vary with messages such as “Baby on Board,” “Kids at Play,” “Caution, Slow Down.”
