Help me give my students authentic materials including vintage toys, decorations, and costume options, for a schoolwide learning opportunity celebrating decades throughout history.
Our school is doing a celebration of decades throughout history at the end of May. Students will first research and immerse themselves in the time period of their own classroom. For my students, that means the 1910s. Then they will go on a walking tour of the other classrooms. They will get to sample foods, play games, listen to music and basically have 30 minutes to "be" in a different time period.
Authentic learning experiences like these are remembered always.
My students will be making decorations, researching foods for a menu, practicing playing games from the era, and generally becoming experts. They will then get to teach that new learning to others. They will also get to travel to other classrooms to experience the other time periods researched by other classes.
I am requesting several vintage games, jigsaw puzzle, chess, cards, marbles, etc. to show students what the entertainment options were at the time. I am also requesting some books to use as source materials and some embroidery hoops to show them what that was all about.
I am also requesting suspernders so that I can supply them to the boys as a starting place for their costumes. I am requesting a few Titanic themed items so that we can have a theme to our time period since that is the mot monumental thing that happened during the 1910s before the start of WWI.
