Safety for Students

My Project

Our Title 1 school houses 345 students PreK-5th grade. We are proud to serve a very diverse population with about one third of students qualifying for multilingual language services. Our teachers are dedicated professionals who strive every single day to help our students learn and to feel safe and loved.

Children deserve and need to feel safe in order to learn, and while we are here to learn, safety is truly our ultimate objective.

We want to do everything in our power to support our safety measures so that we can all focus on learning. When we go into lockdown (it’s happened!) or practice monthly emergency drills, communication among adults is weak. Staff and community members have expressed concern. I fear that if something actually does threaten the safety of our children, the lack of clear communication via walkie talkies in every adult hand could prove to be tragic.
