Students record themselves reading and listen back to improve accuracy, pacing, and expression—the key elements of fluent reading. They also record short book-recommendation podcasts to share with classmates, giving every student a platform to express themselves and spark excitement about books.\r\n\r\nThe recorders have also become a powerful support tool. Multilingual learners and students receiving special-education services use them to hear verbal directions, break assignments into steps, and replay reminders whenever they need. This simple access point has built confidence, reduced frustration, and encouraged independence for all learners.\r\n\r\nWe've even started using the recorders during group work so students can capture their thinking, share ideas in their home language, and reflect on their learning. The classroom buzzes with energy—students are happy, proud, and excited to hear their own voices contribute to our community of learners.\r\n\r\nWhen the recorders arrived, the students could hardly wait to try them. Within minutes, they were recording read-alouds, jokes, and morning-meeting messages. Many said, \"I sound like a YouTuber!\" or \"I want to record more!\" Their enthusiasm quickly turned into purposeful learning as they realized how much their fluency improved when they listened to themselves.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use the recorders to create audio reflections for their science and social-studies projects—sharing what they've learned in both English and their home languages. We're also planning a \"Room 19 Listening Library,\" where peers and families can listen to each student's stories and book talks. These next steps continue our goal of helping every child feel seen, heard, and empowered in their learning journey.","fullyFundedDate":1748926755028,"projectUrl":"project/hear-me-learn-amplifying-student-voices/9391827/","projectTitle":"Hear Me Learn: Amplifying Student Voices for Success and Support","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schueler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8042396"},{"teacherId":3557132,"projectId":9240075,"letterContent":"These items are wonderful! I've already been using the animal pop out letters in the hall display to draw attention to our new books. The youngest students are attracted to the animal on the letter and then they try to sound out the word. So cute...\r\nAs expected, Rubik's cube & chess/checkers sets are a total hit. Students deemed the checkers/chess sets 'very fancy' and are taking good care of them. The fact they they are taking responsibility for this is a win in my book. \r\nThe Rubik's cubes are amazing in that not only are students fascinated by the bright colors trying to solve it, but they are so quiet! I can tell the level of intensity by how quiet they are when they pull out the bin. Sorry, but I do chuckle at this, inwardly.\r\nAgain, I know these might seem like small things, but whatever I can do to get students to love our library, is heartwarming for me. The hope is that their love for libraries will grow and sustain them throughout good times and bad.
