Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning, my kindergartners enter our classroom full of life, energy, and wonder for the day ahead. We begin our day with circle time, fun morning songs, and a chance to share a bit about their lives to prepare them for a day full of learning.

Circle time is a way for my students to mentally prepare for the day and have a break from their harsh realities.

I work in a Title One school where one hundred percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over ninety percent of the students come from low-income households and a neighborhood filled with crime and homelessness.

Our school has one of the highest percentages of foster and homeless youth in the district. But, my students' circumstances do not define them. They are wonderful children who deserve the best and many opportunities to succeed. With your help and DonorsChoose.org., I will be able to give my students these opportunities to ensure they have a better future.

My Project

Play is so important and students need to have a chance to unwind during their breaks. The limitations for inclement weather days are further complicated by the need to keep students safely distanced and in their assigned areas. We have limited space for days when the weather does not permit outdoor play.

These items will be added to our collection of indoor activities that can be done during inclement weather days.

Students can build, create, relax and recharge, and these materials will add to some of what we already have.

These items are easily sanitized between use or allow for students to have individual sets of playtime materials. These items foster creative play and learning in multiple content areas. All play is learning and these items will continue to support students having some valuable downtime and maybe practice some important skills all at the same time.
