My Students

I am the intervention assistant in a second grade full inclusion classroom. I assist an intervention specialist and general education teacher with the students identified with disabilities in our classroom. In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income students. More often than not, some of our students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. Even with these barriers, this does not stop our amazing students from coming to school eager and anxious to learn and be the best they can be!

Our students' disabilities range from mild to intensive, so we strive to make sure all of our students learn, no matter their ability level, in this setting.

There is a lot of differentiated teaching and learning going on throughout the day to make sure we are meeting the needs of all of the students. This typically means we need to make sure we have a variety of resources at our fingertips to be able to provide our students with everything they need to be able to learn. Our goal is to set them up to be independent, contributing members to society.

My Project

We are lucky enough to have a class set of Chromebooks housed in our classroom for every day use. Our second graders learn to use Google Docs to type their personal narratives, opinion writing, and biographies. Additionally, they find all of their own research for their biographies. We also use websites like Speakaboos and Epic to allow our students to listen to reading and Splash Math for extra practice with specific math skills at their level.

Instead of taking the Chromebooks in and out of the cart all day, we would love to have the Amazon Basics laptop cases to keep our Chromebooks in our seat sacks.

It takes valuable time away from instruction when the students have to keep going back to the cart. If we had these cases, the Chromebooks would be safe in their seat sacks on the back of their chairs. After each transition, the students could simply turn around, pull them out, and get started! This would make such a difference in our day!
